A Rhode Island-Based Psychotherapist: My Journey
My path to becoming a therapist has been both unique and deeply personal, rooted in a longstanding desire to help others. Growing up in Rhode Island — the smallest state with a powerful sense of interconnectedness — shaped how I see the world. In a place where “everybody knows everybody,” I learned early on the importance of seeing each person as a unique individual within a shared community. That perspective continues to guide my work today.
Clinical Training & Professional Experience
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Rhode Island, where I developed a strong foundation in research and human behavior. My early work with organizations such as Devereux Therapeutic Foster Care and the Rhode Island Family Court exposed me to the complexities of the child welfare system and deepened my commitment to advocacy. I later earned a Master of Arts in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from Roger Williams University, gaining specialized training in crisis assessment, forensic evaluations, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment approaches. Throughout my career, I’ve worked across clinical, educational, and legal settings — including Brown University, Rhode Island Family Court, and Boston Public Schools — supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and families with structured, compassionate, and individualized care. Today, I provide outpatient psychotherapy at Palmaccio Therapy, continue community-based work supporting children with neurodevelopmental conditions at Perspectives Corporation, and serve on the Development Committee for the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island (WFRI), advocating for equity and systematic change.
Lived Experience & Perspective
My approach to psychotherapy is shaped not only by formal training, but by lived experience. I understand firsthand the complexity of navigating mental health challenges — the uncertainty, the vulnerability, and the courage it takes to seek support. Having sat on both sides of the therapy room, I recognize how powerful it can be to feel truly heard, understood, and respected. This perspective strengthens my commitment to creating a space that is grounded, collaborative, and free of judgment.
Beyond the Therapy Room
Most often you’ll find me with my dog, Ryder — the most anxious, stubborn, yet playful, brilliant, loyal, and loving Miniature Australian Shepherd. He reminds me daily of the power of living in the moment and unconditional love. You may also spot me dragging a barely-zipped, overflowing suitcase through the airport ready to immerse myself in a new culture. Travel has reinforced a truth I see in therapy every day: no matter our differences, the human experience of struggle and hope is universal. My passion for Electronic Dance Music (EDM) — rooted in values of peace, love, unity, and respect (PLUR) — reflects my belief in acceptance, connection, and shared humanity. These experiences aren’t just a part of my story; they are the foundation of my practice. They fuel my commitment to creating a space where you can be heard, understood, and respected.
My Philosophy
I believe therapy is for everybody.
Emotion regulation and self-understanding are not traits we are simply born with — they are skills that can be learned, practiced, and strengthened. Seeking support requires vulnerability and courage, and that deserves recognition. Whether you are ready to step into therapy or simply exploring resources at your own pace, you are not alone. My hope is that this space makes mental health information more accessible, relatable, and empowering — meeting you exactly where you are. It’s okay to not be okay. And it’s okay to ask for help. You are not alone.
